House 13: Child

What is beginning or still immature?

In the Grand Tableau, the House of Child draws your attention to what is still at the beginning.

An idea has just been born. A relationship is still being discovered. A project still fits in a notebook. Something exists, but it has not grown much yet.

Look at the card in position 13 and ask: “What is beginning or still immature?”

The card shows what this beginning concerns. It may also clarify what remains small or still lacks experience.

Let the beginning be its own size

Small does not mean unimportant. A first conversation can open a relationship; a few sales can give rise to a business.

This House does not ask you to measure all the potential. Start by recognizing what is already there, even in a modest form.

If the situation is old, look instead at what remains inexperienced: a way of communicating, a new responsibility, or something still being learned.

The House: a home just getting started

The House speaks of home, housing, and private life.

In the House of Child, it may show the beginnings of a home: a first apartment, a recent move, or a new family arrangement.

The House card gives the subject. Position 13 asks you to look at what is beginning in that setting.

The Sun: an early success

The Sun speaks of clarity, energy, and success.

In position 13, it may show an early success or a new burst of momentum. A project gets its first encouragement; confidence begins to grow.

This beginning may be happy without having proved itself over time yet.

The Mice: a worry that is still small

The Mice speak of small losses, wear, and worry.

Here, a worry may still be mild, a loss limited, or a difficulty only just beginning.

If you are looking at a new project, these small worries may also start to wear it down. The other cards will help you see what needs attention.

What if Child falls in its own House?

Child in the House of Child shows that something is truly at the beginning of its story. It may be new, small, fragile, or still inexperienced.

The rest of the Grand Tableau will tell you what needs time, help, or a framework in order to grow. With lighter cards, this position may bring out the freshness and simplicity of a beginning. With more difficult cards, it may suggest acting without yet weighing all the consequences.

Do not jump too quickly to the conclusion that this concerns a real child or that someone is “acting like a baby.” Self-placement first speaks of the stage the situation is at.

What if your reading is about a child?

The House of Child may speak of a real child when your question already concerns one. The card there then shows something about their situation.

You do not need to bring a child into a question that has nothing to do with one. A beginning or small scale may be enough.

A beginning does not need to know the whole story

Do not demand a finished result from this House. Look at what is beginning, then look elsewhere in the tableau for what helps it grow.

Sometimes position 13 simply shows you the first shoot. That is already a lot.
