House 07: Snake

Where is the complication or detour?

In a Grand Tableau, the House of the Snake draws your attention to what does not take a direct route.

Something makes the path more complicated.

There may be an obstacle to work around, a situation more subtle than it seems, a strategy to understand, or several steps to take before reaching the result.

To read this House, look at the card there and ask yourself:

Where is the complication or detour?

The card there helps you understand what makes the path less straightforward than expected.

Not everything that winds is bad

Imagine a path meeting a rock.

It can stop in front of it.

But it can also go around it.

This is a good way to understand the Snake.

An indirect route may point to a problem, but it may also call for patience, cleverness, or another way forward.

An administrative process may take several steps.

A negotiation may require you not to say or decide everything at once.

A project may need to change course to reach its goal.

So the House of the Snake first asks you:

Why can’t I go straight ahead?

The answer will then tell you whether this detour is an obstacle, necessary caution, or a strategy.

A few examples to help you understand

With the Mountain

The Mountain speaks of an obstacle, a blockage, or a delay.

In the House of the Snake, it shows very clearly why the path has to go around something.

You may want to move straight ahead, but a barrier is in the way.

You then need to wait, find a passage, or choose another way forward.

The Mountain shows the obstacle.

The Snake shows the route that can no longer be direct.

This does not automatically point to someone trying to harm you.

With the Letter

The Letter speaks of a message, contract, document, or written information.

In the House of the Snake, it may show a document that needs more attention than expected.

A contract may contain an important condition. A process may require several documents. A message may be unclear or need checking.

Here, the Snake does not automatically say:

Someone is lying.

It says instead:

Do not read too quickly. Look at where things get complicated.

What if the Snake falls in its own House?

The Snake in the House of the Snake acts as a clear warning that the way is not as simple as it looks. A complication, indirect strategy, hidden interest, or repeated behavior takes up more space.

Look for where the situation twists, goes around, or circles back on itself. Nearby cards will help you see whether this involves a person, a temptation, rivalry, or simply a complicated way forward.

This signal calls for care, not an accusation. The Snake may tell you to check the ground without automatically naming someone to blame.

When the Snake really does speak of a person

Sometimes the detour is not a process or a situation.

It may come from a person.

The Snake may then speak of rivalry, manipulation, indirect influence, or someone acting in a way that is hard to read.

But this reading needs context.

One card in the House of the Snake is not enough to turn someone into an enemy, predict infidelity, or automatically bring in “another woman.”

First look at what your Grand Tableau is saying.

Is there really a person at the center of the problem?

Do other cards show secrecy, rivalry, or a double game?

If not, stay with the simplest reading:

something calls for a detour.

A detour can also show how to move forward

This is where the House becomes especially interesting.

The Snake does not only show what complicates the route.

Sometimes it can show what shape the route needs to take to continue.

If you cannot go straight ahead, should you go around?

Wait?

Negotiate?

Look more closely?

Change your approach?

The card in this House can help you understand not only where the complication lies, but also what it asks of you.

Remember

At position 07, start by asking:

Where is the complication or detour?

Then look at the card there.

It may show what blocks the way, makes it more subtle, or requires you to move differently.

Do not look for someone to blame right away.

First look for the place where the path bends.

Sometimes the Snake does not say the road is bad.

It simply says the road will not be straight.
